Why did NBA leave Vancouver?

NBA left Vancouver after a dispute regarding arena financing. The City planned to provide $40 million for the construction of a new arena that would feature 12 luxury suites and two restaurants. However, the City Council wanted to give the team owners $60 million in taxpayer money to pay off their existing debt. This meant that the city would have had to borrow $200m in order to build the arena. While the team owners had only to pay $20 million, this was a huge difference. This would result in the city being responsible for paying the rest of its loan.

If the NBA would agree to keep Rogers Arena open until the opening of the new facility, the City Council was willing to approve the plan. The league, however, refused to accept the plan. They claimed that the arena was not large enough. They couldn't play there any more because the arena was too small. The City Council requested financial assistance from the province in return. Although the province was willing to donate $150 million, the City Council still needed additional $100 million. The City then decided to abandon its plans and instead focus on building a new downtown arena.

Drake began to work on the melody for We The North after he went to London to film the video for his single "Nice For What". He then recorded the instrumental version in one take.
